Dental Veneers

Dental Veneers

Veneers are not only used to fix broken teeth but they are also used in cosmetic dentistry for improving smiles and smile makeovers.

What is the difference between Bonding and Veneer?

Dental veneers are custom-made shells that are applied to the entire front surface of the tooth. Bonding is usually used for minor repairs. Several teeth can be bonded during one visit whereas dental veneers usually require multiple visits of your cosmetic dentist (How to look for a cosmetic dentist in Vancouver?).

In cosmetic dentistry bonding and dental veneers are used to make your teeth look better. You can change its colour, shape or spacing. If you have broken, cracked or chipped teeth, your dentist can suggest you bonding or veneers in order to fix the issue. Dental veneers can also help you achieve brighter smile and improve your self confidence.

What are dental veneers and how are they made?

Dental veneers are custom-made shells that are attached to the front of the teeth. They are usually made either from porcelain (porcelain veneers) or from composite resin. Porcelain veneers usually require at least 2 visits of your cosmetic dentist whereas composite resin veneers can be done in 1 visit. However, porcelain veneers are stronger that composite resin veneers and do not change colour and can last longer.

How are porcelain veneers done?

At first your cosmetic dentist removes a thin layer of tooth enamel to make a space for the veneers. After that a dentist makes a mold of your tooth/teeth that is used to fabricate custom-made veneers that fits your smile and personality. In the meantime you might receive temporary veneers that will replace the portion of the tooth that has been removed. You will wear temporary veneers until your custom-made porcelain veneers are ready for you. During your second visit your Vancouver cosmetic dentist will remove temporary veneers and replace them with porcelain ones. At Reduction Free Veneers all our porcelain veneers are custom designed and hand fabricated by our in house Vancouver porcelain veneers artist!

Who are the ideal candidates for dental/porcelain veneers?

Not everybody can receive dental veneers. There can be several reasons for that. The most common ones are usually:

  • Tooth decay or a gum disease
  • Your tooth has little enamel
  • Too much tooth is missing
  • If you have a bad habit of grinding or clenching on your teeth as this can break porcelain veneers

How should I maintain my dental veneers?

It might take you couple of weeks to get used to your “new teeth” since they changed in size and shape. You should brush them and floss them daily as your regular teeth. Your dentist might ask you to schedule a follow-up appointment after you have gone through the adjustment period.
